Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) – SSE EV Charging & Source
About Source
Source is a joint venture between SSE and Total Energies. Over time, existing SSE Energy Solutions EV charging sites will be rebranded as Source, and any new charging locations will launch under the Source brand.
SSE has partnered with Total Energies to create Source, a new CPO that will manage and grow the Ultra Rapid EV Charging Hubs network across the UK and Ireland. You can find out more about Source here: https://source-ev.com/about
Your local EV charging hub will soon be updated to the new Source branding. Once this has been done, you will be able to use our new and improved Source app with the chargers.
Please note that, if you are currently an SSE Energy Solutions App user, you will need to create a new account on the Source app.

The SSE Energy Solutions App will only work on SSE branded hubs. Once your local charging hub has been rebranded to Source, you can use our new and improved SourceConnect app, available to download now on Android and Apple devices.

Yes. There will not be an automatic migration of accounts from the SSE Energy Solutions App to the SourceConnect app. You will need to sign up for a new Source account. You can download the app from the App Store or Play Store.

No, you do not need an app to use Source charging hubs. You can also pay for your charge session using your Source RFID membership card, contactless card payment, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and through our roaming partners Octopus Electroverse and Paua.
Once you have signed up for a Source account, you can also choose to have a virtual in-app or physical Source RFID membership card, that will automatically recognise you when you start your charge and apply any applicable discounts.
Using the SourceConnect app and your virtual membership card is a convenient way to locate charging stations, manage payments, and track your charging history.
Want all the benefits of an account, without having to download an app? You can use the browser version here: https://www.source-charging.com/en/home
You can view our charging hub locations on the Source website, the SourceConnect app, or the interactive map on the browser version of our app: https://www.source-charging.com.
You can also find our charging hubs through third-party EV charging maps and navigation services.
We are aiming to rebrand all our chargers during the months of June and July 2025.
Once your local charging hub has been rebranded to show the Source logo, the chargers will no longer show on the SSE Energy Solutions app and you will need to use the SourceConnect app. We recommend setting up your account now so that you are ready to start using our new and improved app.
Our standard unit price has not changed. Tap as you Go contactless card payments, and payment via our roaming partners, Octopus Electroverse and Paua, are still available as usual.
Yes, your existing SSE app will still provide access to your previous charging data. However, historical data will not transfer from your old SSE account to your new Source account, so you will need to save your data before the SSE app is phased out. This won’t happen until the final SSE Hub has been fully rebranded.
Existing SSE Energy Solutions App data will not automatically transfer to the SourceConnect app. If you wish to retain your charging history and receipts, we recommend saving or backing up relevant data.
You will need to create a new account in the SourceConnect app.
The SSE Energy Solutions App will continue to work on SSE branded sites until they are rebranded to Source, then the app will no longer work on those chargers. Once the last hub is rebranded, the SSE Energy Solutions app will be removed from the App stores.
Changes to your Hubs
When it is time for your local hub to be rebranded, there will be no drop in service. We will aim to rebrand and recommission the chargers one at a time meaning that, where safe to do so, the remaining chargers will still be available during this period.
The full rebranding exercise will take roughly 2 days to complete per hub. However, please note that adverse weather conditions may impact this work.
A single site will take approximately 2 days (dependant on weather conditions) to be fully rebranded and chargers updated so they are compatible with the new SourceConnect App.
The first of our 20 existing SSE Energy Solutions branded charging hubs is due to be changed over from mid-June with the exercise running through until the end of July. This is happening across the UK, but it is our goal to make the change as quick and seamless as possible.
We will then look to rebrand our hub in Mullingar, Ireland and will announce the dates for this as soon as possible.
